Our pencils are sharpened, our backpacks are filled, and our minds are eager. It feels good to be back in school, high school that is. Once again, William Mckinley High is filled with angsty, misunderstood, rebellious outcasts.

Last Tuesday, millions tuned in to watch the start to another year for the Glee club, “New Directions.” It was the premiere of the second season of Glee.

Last season’s finale seemed as if it might leave Gleeks show choir club sadly disappointed. “New Directions” did not win, nor even place, at regionals which, according to the agreement with Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba), meant Glee club was over. That is until Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) stepped in with an unexpected change of heart. In the spirit of do-overs, season two finds “New Directions” attempting to revamp its style and recruit new members.

Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), director of “New Directions,” refuses to let an empty sign-up sheet discourage the club, reminds them that this year’s goal is nationals (in New York City) and the club needs to expand if it has any hope of improving.

When a lunch-time performance of “Empire State of Mind” fails to turn heads in the season premiere, Rachel (Lea Michelle) and Finn (Cory Monteith) decide to do a little recruitment of their own. Rachel stumbles upon Sunshine (newcomer vocal powerhouse Charice) in the ladies bathroom.

Rachel and Sunshine engage in a sing-off Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone” which reveals Rachel may have some competition for the spotlight.

When Finn ironically stumbles upon a younger version of himself – a quarterback with a powerful voice- it seems Finn too may have competition. Meanwhile, Santana (Naya Rivera) got a boob job and is demoted from head cheerleader; Quinn (Dianna Agron) gave up her baby and is appointed new head cheerleader; Artie (Kevin McHale) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) broke up; Mike (Harry Shum) and Tina hooked up; Will confesses his love for Emma (Jayma Mays); and Sue finds a new faculty member to antagonize, the new female football coach Shannon Beiste (Dot Jones).

After Glee won four Emmy Awards, including outstanding directing, fans can expect even more this season, as the show will build on its past success.

In the upcoming episodes, Glee fans may expect to see a new beau for both Emma and Kurt (Chris Colfer); more ex-wife drama caused by Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig); and maybe even a rekindling of the Quinn and Finn love interest.
