The University of Denver’s club racquetball team finished well during the National Intercollegiate Championships this past weekend at Arizona State University.

Freshman William Platisa finished in 1st place in the consolation bracket of his division.

Senior player Mason Hays finished 4th in the consolation bracket of his division after having to forfeit a previous game due to the team having to leave the tournament early because of conflicting flight plans.

“We are an extremely close team,” said Hays, “We crack jokes off of the court, but we mean business when we compete in games.”

In the national tournament the team was not able to compete as well as others due to many factors including other teams getting scholarships, according to Hays.

“This tournament was difficult for us. We played against teams that had full rosters and practiced regularly,” said Hays.

The team’s journey to the national tournament had its rough points. Early on, the club team was comprised of ten men and four women. Now there are four men left and no women on the complete roster.

The team finished in second place in a tournament in Boulder, Colo.
