The men’s golf team heads to the Colorado National Golf Course for NCAA Regionals in Erie, Colo., this weekend, where the University of Colorado is hosting the tournament.

The tournament will take place May 19-21.

The Pioneers were able to gain an automatic bid to the tournament when they won the 2011 Club Glove Sun Belt Conference Championship in April.

The SBC Championship had to be cut short due to weather, causing round three to be cancelled. DU shot a three-under 573 through rounds one and two to claim the SBC title. The Pioneers claimed their first championship since 2008, and their second in school history.

In the regional tournament, the young Pioneers will be led by freshman Ole Ramsnes and junior Troy Anderson. These two lead the Pioneers vs. par this season.

The Pioneers will face strong competition in each of the other 12 teams. Their biggest competition will come from the No. 1-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The Cowboys earned the top spot with strong play during the regular season. Oklahoma State has been the top team in golf nationally for most of the season, and they claimed the Big 12 title.

Oklahoma State, DU and New Mexico State earned the automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments.

If the Pioneers finish in the top five of the teams in the regional tournament, then they will advance to the finals of the NCAAs.

The finals will occur May 31-June 5 in Karsten Creek, Okla.
