As Colorado receives more snow, an increasing number of students are flocking to the mountains to hit the slopes. For those of us who want to skip the trails and the traffic altogether, here are three ways you can enjoy your winter.

The Denver Art Museum

With over 70,000 art pieces on display, the Denver Art Museum located within the Civic Center provides the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself for hours in a vast array of experiences.

The most recent exhibit features author and artist Maurice Sendak. Sendak’s most notable work can be seen in the childhood picture book “Where the Wild Things Are.His unique artistic style, which transported many of us to a fictional world as children, takes on a new light with over 450 unique works being displayed until Feb. 17.

Resident college students can purchase tickets for $27, while non-residents can purchase tickets for $30. If you’re looking to save some cash, the museum will have free admission on Feb. 22.

First Friday Art Walks

Keeping with the art theme, on the first Friday of each month from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., hundreds of people gather in Denver’s Art District to experience the overwhelming art scene on Sante Fe Drive.

With street art lining the buildings, to galleries open to the public, it’s hard to take a step without encountering something new. If art isn’t your thing, you can stop to grab a bite to eat or a drink at one of the many restaurants and food trucks that line the streets.

Go for a Hike

If the natural aspect of CO still piques your interest, there are numerous day hikes right outside Denver. While Red Rocks Amphitheater is known for hosting some of the best concerts due to its unique soundscape created from the rock formations, it is also a gorgeous place for a day hike.

Whether you are looking for a short walk or a longer trek, Red Rocks Park has countless trails for you to choose from. From geologic wonders, breathtaking views and an abundance of plants and wildlife, the park offers a perfect break from the bustle of city life.

Any of these activities would be an amazing way to spend an off day. However, they only represent a fraction of the endless options out there. Just like there is more to do in CO than skiing, there is so much more to do than what’s presented on this list.

You can always opt to choose your own adventure. Maybe it’s settling down with a book in your favorite cafe, exploring a new place via light rail, or even just going for a walk. However you choose to spend your winter months is ultimately up to you.
