On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the Dimond Green was completely transformed into a Halloween haunt as the DU Programming Board (DUPB) set up this year’s “Spooktacular Celebration.”
The event was held from 7-9 p.m. and contained a myriad of activities including a corn maze laser tag, pumpkin painting, s’more making and even a ghostly goodies raffle.
The blow-up corn maze laser tag was an unforeseen exciting activity for students.
Eight people were allowed in at a time, making up two teams of four. Each team member had a laser gun and chest protection. The maze elevated the difficulty of the game, as it was harder to know where people were and navigate the terrain.
DUPB Explorations Co-Chair Ynosh Ilagan, a third-year, said that the entire event took around an hour and a half to set up.
DUPB is an organization designed to create events for undergraduate students outside of the classroom. They are divided into subdivisions that focus on different aspects of the DU experience. The explorations committee is responsible for the holiday events, and consequently, the “Spooktacular Celebration.”
The exploration committee wanted a Halloween event for week seven to help alleviate student’s stress. They first thought about making a haunted house, but ultimately thought that a field of activities would be more fun and get students in the spirit of Halloween.
Nearly all students who attended the “Spooktacular Celebration” showed up in costume, marking DUPB’s success.
The students that attended the event raved about it and even brought their friends.Linnéa Garner, a freshman, attended the corn maze and the s’mores making.
“The spirit of the event is making me so excited for Halloween,” Garner said.
As Halloween quickly approaches, DUPB has done a fantastic job at making students eager for the holiday and it will be exciting to see what event they organize next.
