The University of Denver women’s soccer team had a great week, beating the University of Missouri Kansas City 3-1 on the road in their first Summit League game on Thursday and tying the University of North Dakota 0-0 at home on Sunday.

During Thursday’s contest, the Crimson and Gold dominated the Roos from the beginning. Their first goal came in the 24th minute of play when redshirt senior midfielder and defender Addisyn Hyrup played a through ball to freshman forward Megan Murray, who chipped the shot into the back of the net.

Kansas City fought back to start the second half. They equalized with a goal from senior Kayda Kamolz in the 51st minute.

Denver took the lead again in the 64th minute from a messy play at the edge of the box where senior midfielder Jadyn Goodrich found senior midfielder Ella Frost who blasted it into the back of the net with the goalkeeper caught away from the goal.

DU sealed the game in the 77th minute with a goal from senior midfielder and defender Riley Baker who finished off a corner kick from senior midfielder Jadyn Goodrich

Later in the week, Denver was back at home in another Summit League matchup against the University of North Dakota. They were held to a scoreless draw, despite registering 36 shots, 10 of which were on target.

Denver’s biggest chance was in the 29th minute of play. Two shots from inside the box were blocked by defenders, then the ball came to senior Baker in the six-yard box, who was denied by a diving save from North Dakota goalkeeper Grace Miller.

Later in the second half, North Dakota’s Avery Toms cut in at the top of the box and curled a shot into the crossbar. The rebound went out of bounds for a goal kick.

The University of Denver will continue their Summit League play on the road at Oral Roberts on Oct. 5.
