The no. 5 Denver men’s lacrosse team trampled the St. John’s Red Storm with trouble-free transmission at Peter Barton stadium last Friday. DU piled in a season-high 18 goals, sending the Red Storm back to New York with a score of 18-8.

St. John’s opened the scoring in the first quarter with a goal at the 8:25 mark of the frame. Dropping to a knee and thrusting a fist pump, the team mobbed the scorer as if he had scored a game-winner.

DU went on a 10-0 run after that point, no egregious celebrations to note, just another evening at Peter Barton. St John’s added two tallies before going into the half 10-3 in favor of DU.

The Red Storm never came within seven goals of Denver’s lead for the rest of the outing. Ten DU players scored in the outing and junior attack Noah Manning and junior midfielder Mic Kelly both netted hat-tricks.

Head Coach Matt Brown spoke on the win under the lights, “Huge win, it’s always special playing here at [Peter] Barton Stadium, playing under the lights is even more special. 2-0 in the Big East standings now, and that’s all that matters,” said Brown.

Denver’s next game presents a challenge as they welcome #11 Georgetown to Peter Barton Stadium. The game will be on Saturday at 12 p.m. and can be streamed on the DU athletic website
