On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Skintight Outrage had their weekly improv show in Sturm Hall’s Lindsay Auditorium. The weekly comedy show runs from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
The main goal of these weekly shows is to allow students to take a break from their studies and have a good laugh. It is a free one-hour show, divided into sections, each containing different improv games and activities.
What was particularly remarkable about their performance is how much the audience participates. In each section, students were asked for words on which the activities were based. The show featured various segments, including “objection,” “ famous last words,” “semantics,” “lines in Pocket,” “half-life” and more, with both club members and the audience participating.
For many students, the on-campus night of comedy provides a much-needed break every week.
“This show is a stress relief; we come every Wednesday night” said one DU student.
“We like that this comedy show is on every Wednesday; we consider it a treat for the hard work we do for the week, and it helps us go through the week” said another.
The feeling is shared by the improvisers. When asked whether it’s hard or stressful to prepare weekly for the shows, the answers were quite the opposite.
“Making people happy and joyful makes me happy and gives me positive energy” said one member of the improv troupe.
“We have a great team. If someone messes up, someone will be in the back supporting and helping” said another member.
“Messing up is okay, because there is always a way to make it fun and we take it easy,” said Kevin Kappes, Skintight Outrage’s president.
It is really exciting to see how students care about making each other happy and how collaborative they are.
The next show is occurring on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and the last show of the quarter is Wednesday, Nov. 15. Don’t worry though, weekly performances return during winter quarter.
