As Winter Quarter winds to a close each year, there is usually only one thing students yearn for: food. Last Thursday night, DU’s Asian Student Alliance (ASA) heard this desperate call and answered with an end-of-quarter feast fit for a king.

On the ground floor of the Community Commons, ASA set out a glorious spread of dishes from US Thai Cafe, located in Edgewater, CO. Options included Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, crab wontons, veggie rolls as well as a few vegan options.

ASA is committed to promoting education on and experience of Asian culture, including Asian food. Events like these help the alliance achieve this goal. With delicious food to share, it’s no wonder that ASA’s event saw a massive turnout.

“A lot of people came tonight, and it’s good to see that there’s more diversity in the attendance than usual. Honestly, even though it’s an Asian Student Alliance, I do like seeing other affinity groups as well, because then we can all celebrate together,” said the president of ASA, Suhyun Goh.

Before the crowd of attendees could dig in, Goh announced that ASA elections were on the horizon. Goh’s time as ASA President has been a resounding success, having planned numerous events over the past year, including ASA’s spectacular Lunar New Year event. However, she, as well as the other members of ASA’s board, will soon be stepping down from their positions to make way for a new generation of ASA leaders.

Next quarter, ASA will hold board elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Inter-alliance chair, Historian and Advocacy Chair, Marketing Chair, Logistics and A-Crew Coordinator. Though Goh looks back fondly on her time as ASA President, she is optimistic about the leadership abilities of the potential candidates.

“I’m excited to see the potential people who could be our next board. I have already noticed some people who have stepped up and made sure that the things that are supposed to happen, happen,” said Goh. “I also noticed that the people that stand out to me are the people who appear to be leading other people around them.”
