The leaves are changing color and it is getting colder. Now that it is fall, the “spooky season” is upon us. The DU community knows just how to celebrate with old and new traditions, keeping all the spooky ghouls satisfied.

To kick off the month of October was the Hockey Campout, the oldest tradition of them all. Starting bright and early at 8 a.m. students could be seen bundled up pitching tents. The campout is a student favorite that takes place outside of the Ritchie Center on Oct. 1.

With the campout students get a chance to earn a golden season ticket, allowing free access to all hockey games. There was everything from food and games to prizes and other fun activities. Students were also able to watch a hockey practice and disco skate. The events started at 5 p.m. and ended at 8 p.m.

The second week of October was dedicated to homecoming. All week long you got to hear cheering sororities and fraternities for recruitment. It seemed like the most awaited event was Hocktoberfest. The event was held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Campus Green was transformed into a giant party before the big hockey game against Arizona State University. DU Programming Board (DUPB) held the event and experienced a big turnout. Students were enjoying themselves and there was nothing but smiles and good vibes.

Another event DUPB hosted was “Fall Quarter 2021 Mid Quarter Munch.” Right outside of Sturm you could see students grabbing the free food coming to and from class for the hectic week six. The five-day event was a success–what college student doesn’t like free food?

Tina Boe, a fifth-year at DU, described DUPB as “spirited” during the event.

“I thought that it was really convenient to grab food coming to and from class,” she said.

During week seven, DUPB is having a spooky Spotify scavenger hunt. There will be 13 Spotify codes hidden around campus. The first three to scan all the codes win a spooky gift basket. Be on the lookout to win some goodies!

On Oct. 26, the Neurodiversity Resource Group (NRG) is throwing a “Halloween Bash.” The ghostly event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Campus Green. You can expect there to be lawn games, pumpkin painting, candy and much more! While costumes are not required, don’t be afraid to pull your most ghastly attire to really feel the Halloween spirit. Register on CrimsonConnect to reserve your spot!

If you’re looking for goodies before your Halloween plans then I have just the event for you. The University of Denver’s Chi Omega chapter is hosting a chilling “Owl-O-Ween” this Halloween. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. all parents and children in the Denver area are welcome to trick-or-treat at the Chi Omega house.

“Owl-O-Ween After Dark” begins at 4 p.m. and all DU students are welcomed to trick-or-treat then. Tickets are $5 and there will be a raffle for a chance to win airpods! All the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish foundation and the Chi Omega foundation. Show support to the women of Chi Omega and the Make-A-Wish Colorado community.

There are only six more days left of the spooky season but do not fret. There are bound to be a lot of events that different organizations around campus are hosting, especially coming closer to Halloween. You can always find more information about upcoming events from DUPB’s instagram. With that being said, Halloween is almost upon us, so stay safe and stay spooky.
