Many scientific studies have been done regarding the efficacy of face masks during the current pandemic. These studies have overwhelmingly shown that face masks help slow the virus’s spread.

With that in mind, we will now present the five best reasons why everyone should embrace the wearing of face masks every time you leave the house and go to places where people are gathered. It’s not a matter of rights; it’s a matter of safety.

Reason #1 – You’re Keeping Other People Safe

Most people who test positive for the Coronavirus have no symptoms. Most people who carry the virus have no symptoms means they don’t know they’re positive until they’re tested, and wearing a mask means it is less likely you will infect someone else.

That is, after all, the primary method of transmission and spread is person-to-person. You can clean everything you touch regularly, but you can quickly spread it to others if you are asymptomatic.

Face masks prevent the spread by blocking the droplets that happen when someone talks, breathes, coughs, or sneezes. These virus-containing particles don’t get n other people or surfaces, and many scientific studies prove this to be the case.

According to a recent study of mask effectiveness, when a person was mask-free, the infected droplets traveled eight feet. Of course, if they wore a simple bandanna or cloth over their faces, that distance was cut to 3 feet, 7 inches. A folded simple cotton handkerchief cut the length to 1 foot, 3 inches.

Neither is superior to a simple medical mask, but they’re still better than nothing.

Reason #2 – Masks Protect the Wearer, Too

In addition to protecting others around you, several studies have shown that face protection masks also protect the wearer, as long as they cover both the mouth and nose. The best way to think about it is that the more people who use a mask to block virus transmission, the less viral matter in the air.

That is the real protection masks offer. If everyone is wearing one, there is less virus hanging n the air for people to contact, so there is a lot less spread. Each person that breaks the chain of masked people allows more of the virus to spread unchecked.

If absolutely everyone is masked, then we are choking off the virus and stopping the spread. Everyone benefits from everyone wearing a mask, including all wearers.

Reason #3 – You May Be An Asymptomatic Carrier

It is worth repeating. Most Coronavirus carriers are asymptomatic, which means they don’t know they have it. Early on, when the virus was brand new for us, the CDC recommended that only those with symptoms or tested positive wear masks.

However, they changed their guidelines soon after, when it became apparent that most patients had few or no symptoms, but the virus was spreading as fast as ever. They then suggested that everyone mask up to stop the spread.

You may think you’re healthy, but the Coronavirus may be lurking, anyway. One study has suggested that if everyone wears a mask over the next few months, it could save as many as 35,000 lives over that span. And if you’re concerned about the economy, that’s how you fix it.

Reason #4 – Masks Could Lead to Economic Recovery

Many people most upset about wearing a face protection mask have to realize that everyone wearing masks could speed up the economic recovery we all need. It’s impossible to force the economy open, which is evident when you look at the number of spikes in COVID-19 cases everywhere in which mask mandates and other measures were paused.

Since the economy went on the skids when measures were taken to stop the spread, the way to end this is to stop the spread, and that means masks. It’s how we will open businesses back up and get the jobs back to the 44 million who have filed for unemployment.

Reason #5 – Masks are Easy and Available

Every day seems to bring some hope on the horizon,  but the vaccines take time to deploy, and effective drug therapies are very slow in developing. If you feel helpless and frustrated, know that masks are one of the few ways to fight this pandemic that are readily available to everyone that will help.

Whether you buy a reusable face mask or buy a bunch of disposables, they all help stop the spread of the disease. If all 320 million of us wore a mask everywhere, we wouldn’t be as dependent on a vaccine or a new treatment to get through this and take “normal” back, whatever that is to you.
