CU Boulder will host UCLA on Nov. 7 to kick off its revised conference-only football schedule for the 2020 season.
The schedules for Pac-12 teams were released on Oct. 3. The conference reversed course and reinstated the fall football season after previously canceling it. Each team will play seven games, three home and three away, with the seventh being the championship game. If the school is not in the championship, they will play a team in their division.
The conference decided to play in the fall due to the commissioners’ agreement with testing company Quidel. This agreement will provide antigen tests for the schools and allow them to test the athletes daily. While this aided the conference and persuaded state government officials in southern California and Oregon to allow them to play, new hurdles have arisen.
Rising COVID-19 cases in northern California and Colorado have led to restrictions being reinstated. In Boulder, the county put a two-week lockdown in place on Sept. 24 for those aged between 18 and 22. This halted the football team from practicing until Oct. 8, when the situation will be re-evaluated. The lockdown was implemented in response to a significant increase in cases on the CU Boulder campus, with the university reporting over 1,500 active cases.
The university, per conference rules, must also receive permission from state and local health officials before playing a game. Along with the daily testing, the conference has stated that no fans will be allowed to participate in any Pac-12 events this year.
