The men’s tennis team competed against in-state rival Air Force on Friday evening at the new Denver Tennis Park. The Pioneers took the match 7-0.
The night opened up with the doubles competition where the team was able to assert their dominance early in the match. At no. 1 doubles, the sophomore duo James Davis (Barnstaple, England) and Matt Summers (Maidstone, U.K.) won their match 6-1. Sophomore Eric Morris (Corinth, Texas) and freshman Daniel Krulig (Miami, Fla.) were able to secure no. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win in their match.
The Pioneers and Air Force moved to the singles competition where the Pioneers were able to close the match sweep. Krulig was able to take the no. 5 match 6-2, 6-2 with junior Pedro Fernandez Del Valle (Newport Beach, Calif.) winning his no. 3 singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-2. No.109 Mattia Ros (Latisana, Italy) was able to defeat a tough opponent 7-5, 6-2 at no. 1 singles.
The Pioneers will be traveling to face their next opponent, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, this Saturday, Feb. 9.
