On Jan. 22, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) had their weekly meeting. The meeting discussed an unnamed bill proposing changes to the way USG disperses finances. Essentially, the bill seeks to adopt the Finance Committee Manual into USG’s bylaws. The manual changes the initial amount of money an organization may receive, stating that all organizations will be eligible for an annual budget based on the size quartile of their organization, as reflected by membership rosters supplied to the Senate Student Organization Committee at the time of their renewal, receiving anywhere from $200 to $500. Any additional funding will need to be requested through an application process. There was a town hall held on Thursday for student organizations to ask questions and address their concerns. USG asks that students reach out to Press Secretary Isaiah Jakab at isaiah.g.jakab@gmail.com.
During USG’s Executive report, Vice President Holden Fitzgerald discussed the Executive branch’s meeting with DU’s Board of Trustees (BOT). At this meeting, Fitzgerald said that they discussed DU’s tuition increases, the desire for a mascot change, the upcoming Title IX changes and the proposal of undergraduate and graduate members of Board of Trustees subcommittees. Fitzgerald said that he and USG President Bryce Armijo are hopeful for the future.
Another update from USG is that they will be livestreaming their meetings starting Jan. 29 on their Facebook and Instagram account. Follow their Facebook at “USG at DU” or their Instagram at @du_usg for updates.
