“Do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa’s words guided Chi Omega during yet another successful Wish Week, as they raised over 3 thousand dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This contributes to the total of close to 1 million dollars raised by Chi Omega chapters throughout the country.

The week started on Monday with “Cup a Joe with Chi O”; stationed outside of both Sturm Hall and Anderson Academic Commons first thing in the morning, the Chi O sisters gave a needed pick-me-up (midterms, people) to DU students all while supporting a great cause, proving that Wish Week is a win-win situation for everybody involved.

Wednesday brought “Wings For Wishes,” the perfect way to eat all of the Buffalo Wild Wings you want, guilt free. The Chi O house was decorated fabulously; rows of blue tables were dressed with confetti, Make-A-Wish temporary tattoos and rubber bracelets. The sense of community in the room was palpable—each sister was truly proud to have a part in granting kids the experiences of a lifetime.

I got the chance to talk to some of the sisters, asking them why Wish Week matters to them. Senior Ashley Baker said, “It’s so great to give hope to kids who need it the most right now. I can’t imagine going through what they’re going through. They’re all so strong.”

Sophomore Allie Newman added, “It’s a super cool way to give back. It’s cool to see that we can make a difference.”

The week finished with a bang at Friday’s cookout and volleyball tournament. They spread out on Carnegie Green, playing games like cornhole and volleyball to celebrate the success of their hard work. With the focus of our society on… other things… it is refreshing to be reminded that there are still selfless, kind people out their with one goal in mind: to do good.
