The Ogden Theater was full of excitement last night as French EDM artist CloZee delivered an energetic, vibrant performance as part of her “Evasions” tour.

Opening for CloZee were Cloudchord, best known for incorporating elements of jazz along with electronic music. Melodic synths were infused with live instruments, from electric guitars to trombones.  Also opening was IHF, an artist well-known for his dream-like, melodic songs similar to artists such as Odesza and Tycho.

Both opening acts hyped up the sold-out venue, with the audience dancing and waving their hands in the air, fully engaged with the music and building up their excitement for CloZee.

CloZee was welcomed to screams of, “I love you CloZee” and “You are beautiful.” Many in the front row made a heart shape with their hands and smiled with the joy of seeing one of their favorite artists.

Surrounded by color-changing lights and smoke, CloZee played her most popular hits, from “Koto” to her newest single, “Evasion.” Similar to her opener Cloudchord, CloZee also incorporated live instruments into her set, notably an acoustic guitar for an infusion of an indie rhythm with electronic music.

CloZee is well-known for creating music with Asian instruments, such as a katana. When her most popular song, “Koto,” was performed, the audience could clearly hear the katana playing over melodic, dream-like synths. She continued to engage the audience by having them clap along to the beat of the music and dancing along to her own music. She also told the crowd to look at the back of the theater, where the lights from her stage would create different shapes along the wall, from criss-cross patterns to spirals.

CloZee also displayed humility on stage, telling the crowd that she loves them for their enthusiasm and love for her music, eventually walking toward the front row to shake hands with the crowd, thanking them for coming to her show. When she had finished her set, the crowd chanted, “One more song, one more song,” and she decided to return onstage to play one last song, satisfying the crowd’s wishes for more music.

Concerts are known to take crowds away from everyday life and into another world, similar to reading a good book or watching a good movie. CloZee’s show was no different, creating a world of bright lights and harmonic melodies, leaving the crowd in love with her music and her humility as an artist.
