March is just around the corner, bringing with it numerous events, including the beginning of spring, Women’s History Month and St. Patrick’s Day. With finals coming up, it’s important to get out and have fun to destress: lots of great events are happening in and around Denver next month, so check out a few of those below and escape from school for a couple of hours. All of these events run through spring break, so those who can’t enjoy these opportunities during school can still have fun during their time off.
Samurai Exhibit at the Denver Art Museum, March 6 – June 5
The history of the Japanese samurai has been told countless times throughout novels, movies and other works, but the Denver Art Museum will present it through murals and samurai armor beginning March 6. The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum in Dallas helped curate and organize the exhibit. Over 140 objects have been selected, including weapons, paintings, helmets and more. Students receive a discount at the Denver Art Museum, so make sure to bring your DU ID for $8 tickets. To read more about the exhibition, check out the Denver Art Museum website; the exhibit runs through spring break, so it’s the perfect time to stroll around and enjoy your time off.
Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade, March 12
Those who aren’t still suffering through finals or haven’t yet jetted off to a well-needed vacation for spring break can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early. On March 12, the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade will celebrate Irish culture with a myriad of dancers, musicians and other performers. The event welcomes Ireland’s grand marshal, Adrian Farrell, to the American Southwest. This year’s Queen Colleen and DU alum Kate Kelly will be attending in order to honor her Irish heritage. Put on as much green as possible, brush up on your Irish history and get ready to dance it out with your friends. For more information regarding the event, such as parade start and end locations, check out the parade’s website.
Molly Brown House Museum tour, all year round
Technically, tours of the Molly Brown House Museum occur throughout the year, but there’s no better month than Women’s History Month to learn about Molly Brown. Brown was an enigmatic figure—she survived the sinking of the Titanic and helped negotiate with famed businessman John D. Rockefeller for miners rights in Ludlow, Colorado. The museum offers guided walking tours that last about 45 minutes. However, tours only run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every half hour during the school year, and the museum is closed on Mondays, so it might be tricky to find some time in your busy schedule to make it out; spring break may be the perect time to learn about Molly Brown. Go to mollybrown.org for a tour schedule, upcoming events and more. Tickets are $7 for students.
