On Feb. 27, DU women’s basketball team hosted the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in Magness Arena for the last game of the regular season. The final score of the game was 70-60 Omaha.

After this game, DU is now ranked No. 8 in the conference standings as they enter the Summit League playoffs.

Saturday’s contest was also Senior Day for the Pioneers. Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas), the only senior on the team, was honored before tip-off. She tallied 14 points, two assists and two rebounds for the Pioneers against Omaha on Feb. 27. Bradley is one of two DU women’s basketball players to score over 1,200 career points during her time as a Pioneer. To add to her scoring abilities, Bradley also has 300+ rebounds and 350+ assists in her collegiate career. She will likely increase her numbers even more in the playoffs. In January, Bradley scored a career high 31 points against North Dakota State.

Freshman Samantha Romanowski (Mountlake Terrace, Washington) led the team in scoring with 15 points against the Mavericks.

The first quarter was very slow for the Pioneers, as they only scored three baskets for a total of seven points. The second quarter showed significant improvements with DU scoring only one less point than Omaha. This sent the game into the half with a score of 22-29 with the Mavericks leading.

The third quarter was the only time DU would outscore Omaha in a single frame, scoring 17 points to their 16. At one point in the fourth quarter, DU was within five points of Omaha, but this was not close enough. The Mavericks were able to stay ahead until the end, securing their sixth place seed in the Summit League.

Next weekend, March 5 and 6, DU will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to compete in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament. They will face the Summit League’s top seeded University of South Dakota Coyotes.
