Valentine’s Day can be either the best or the worst day of the year depending on how you look at it, but there are a few surefire ways to at least improve upon the day. With various plays and concerts occurring during the heart-filled weekend, there are multiple ways to brighten up your day.

Vagina Monologues, Feb. 13-14

Who doesn’t love feminist monologues, stories of the female experience and supporting local organizations that benefit the community? This V-Day, for the price of $10, you can watch a cast of talented female DU students perform the Vagina Monologues, an episodic play that details the struggles of being a female in the media world. Proceeds will go to El Centro Humanitario Para Los Trabajadores, a laborer center which supports laborers living in Colorado. To buy tickets, pop on over to the play’s EventBrite page.

Valentimez at the Mercury Cafe, Feb. 13

Taking place at one of the most romantic cafes in town, this concert is one that will gets hearts thumping and those romantic feelings rolling. Featuring music from four local bands including The Raven and the Writing Desk, Taeogi, Scatter Gather and Space Suits for Indians, this mish-mash of psych, dark pop and indie rock will provide the perfect night out with your significant other or with your single (and loving it) self.

Chocolate: The Exhibition, Opens Feb. 12

There’s probably nothing more romantic than chocolate, and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science knows it. Learn how the delicious and iconic Valentine’s Day treat is made and used in various cultures at this exhibit opening Feb. 12.
