DU students are currently enjoying one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year: Winter Carnival. The carnival is one of DU’s longest standing traditions and there are countless activities on campus and off.
Starting Feb. 1, Winter Carnival activities like ice skating and trivia night were held around campus. Many students, however, especially skiers and snowboarders, are awaiting Feb. 5-7, when the party moves to Keystone Resort.
On-mountain events have varied in the past, including a chili cook-off or Instagram contest. This year, there will be skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and a “Board Games and Brownies Night” on Friday and more tubing, skiing and snowboarding followed by a concert on Saturday. Lift tickets, as well as ski lessons and an ice rink for skating, will be available all weekend.
DU Programming Board (DUPB) announced that a record of over 1,300 participants registered for Winter Carnival this year. The weather should be fair, as well. It will be chilly up in the mountains—about 23 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday, 31 on Saturday and 26 on Sunday—but there might be some sun and blue sky, as well.
Although registration is closed for mountain activities at this time, it is not too late to get involved on campus or plan a day trip up to Keystone to simply get off campus and enjoy the mountains.
