As you already know, college is expensive. Actually, it’s more than expensive. It is likely that your checking account is always empty and you can barely afford ramen at this point. So here are a few wallet-friendly ideas to keep your relationship fired up and your financial situation somewhat bearable.

  1. “Netflix and Chill”

Movie theaters are expensive, and not very intimate. Netflix is a great alternative. With plans starting as low as $7.99 per month, it offers unlimited streaming of movies and television shows. There is nothing better than cozying up next to your date at the end of the day, watching a movie and maybe even getting a little distracted.

  1. Chautauqua National Historic Landmark

With the free RTD College Pass provided to all DU students, you and your date can take a trip down to Boulder and experience the beauty for free. Take the light rail to Union Station and hop on a bus to Boulder’s very own Chautauqua National Historic Landmark. There, you will be able to spend the day hiking on the landmark’s multiple trails, and picnicking on field below. At the end of the day, you both can cuddle up in a blanket and watch the sun set over the mountain.

  1. Denver Art Museum

Another great, inexpensive date idea is spending the day at the Denver Art Museum. It is free on the first Saturday of every month so you’ll be able to experience amazing art with each other at no cost. There are plenty of free ways to get there from campus, whether it be by bus or light rail and then a quick walk. Use the day to embrace all of the artwork with your date by your side.

  1. University of Denver Athletics

Aside from hockey games, admission into all University of Denver sporting events is free with your student ID. Follow “denverpioneers” on Instagram or go to www.denverpioneers.com to find out all of the great events to go to, and you and your date may even win some free gear. Nothing is better than an evening with a date, sports, and free clothes.

  1. Video Chat

Some of you may be in what we call a “long distance relationship.” Dating is strenuous and costly when your significant other is hundreds, if not thousands of miles away. With technology today, being able to hear their voice and see their face at the same time is right at your fingertips. Almost all smartphones have some sort of video-chatting capabilities, whether they be through FaceTime, Skype or Oovoo. Set up a time, dim the lights, and spend the night talking with your date.
