Dear Editor,

Abraham Lincoln once said, “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”

President Lincoln’s words hold an imperative and prevailing truth. Over the past few years, our government has done little to fix issues now facing college students. As we approach our lives after graduation, hope for future stability is indefinite. With the 2016 Presidential Election nearing, college students need to focus on electing a president who can fix defective policy in order to ensure future prosperity.

In my opinion, the only way to bring about that needed change is through electing a candidate from the Republican Party. For college students, the cost of higher education is concerning, especially for those of us who will have to take on debt. However, Dr. Ben Carson and Mrs. Carly Fiorina, both of the GOP, have suggested solutions that would succeed in reducing these costs.

For example, Dr. Carson has proposed the idea of making universities liable for paying interest on student loans. Not only would this policy help current students, but it would also provide incentive for colleges to decrease future tuition. Further, Mrs. Fiorina recently suggested denationalizing the student loan industry in order to lower interest rates. While both propositions may not seem as appealing as others, they are achievable and would ease the cost of higher education in a plausible way.

The Republican Party is well aware of the issues facing students and they are committed to finding solutions that will benefit both our generation and others. As the general election nears, I believe the Republican nominee, whoever they may be, is the best choice for office. I encourage any young voter to support these candidates and join the GOP movement for a promising future.

Sincerely,

Aubry Andreas
