Living in the city can be overwhelming, but being within the confines of a place as culturally vibrant and beautiful as Denver means that there is a constant flow of new events, amazing restaurants and goings-on around us. Want help navigating the constant state of awesome that is living in Denver? Then check out these four helpful apps:
Thrillist
Basically a Buzzfeed-esque city guide platform, Thrillist gives you on-the-go access to its collection of “professionally curated recommendations” for the best bars, restaurants and clubs in the Mile-High City. Expect articles such as “13 Great First-Date Bars in Denver” or “14 New Denver Restaurants You Need to Check Out Immediately.” Perhaps the most useful feature, however, is the “Nearby” function, which gives users a Google Maps image with nearby well-rated bars and restaurants, helpful for when you’re lost downtown and need a good burger.
Gogobot
Gogobot is a discovery and travel research app based all around the idea, “forget tomorrow, discover something new today.” The app interface is beautiful and easy to navigate. One can search places to stay (more for tourists), eat and play. When you open one of these three options, you get a long list of filters that allow you to tailor the list to your personal needs. When you choose a location, a separate page opens with reviews, photos and the most unique feature of all—a popularity rating system based on specific preferences (e.g 98 percent popular with foodies, 78 percent local, 63 percent vegetarian).
Westword
You might know Westword as that wild, ad-laden magazine always scattered around in bars and restaurants, but there is more to the alternative magazine than its reputation conveys. The mobile app version of the alt-weekly is one of the best places to digitally stop by if looking for something to do in the city. The calendar option gives a rundown of upcoming and current events ranging from indie film premieres to fringe art festivals and bar openings. The app also contains a fantastic collection of hidden gem bars and clubs. If you want to get your alternative on, Westword is your best friend.
Curated Denver
Incredibly well-designed and versatile, Curated describes itself as being made for “those who want to explore the rad, crafty, and creative side of the city.” Curated’s interface allows one to pick and match different categories of attraction and then to receive a photographic list of the places that match the parameters. For example, one can choose the “Coffee” and “Hidden Gem” options to find the perfect quiet and delicious coffeeshop to crank out an essay in. Clicking on a location reveals another screen with a description and “Curator’s Note” that provides a reasoning for the location’s appearance on the list beside simple ratings and reviews.
With these apps in your pocket, you’re ready to go forth and explore the diverse and fantastic options Denver has to offer.
