A fantastic resource that many students may be woefully unaware of is the Digital Media Center, located in the Anderson Academic Commons. On the main floor just past the lending desk on the right side of the library, the Digital Media Center is a self-service, post-production studio. It is available for free to students, faculty, staff and members of the Denver community.
The center has 14 27-inch Apple desktop computers with cameras and audio equipment available for rent, as well as software for production and editing, including the entire Adobe Suite package such as InDesign, After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom. All the computers are also outfitted with Microsoft Office software like PowerPoint, Excel and Word along with other software like Final Cut Pro and Garage Band.
Another resource available at the Digital Media Center is a digital conversion lab. Students can bring in media from audio cassette tapes, records, CDs, Super-8 filmand VHS video cassette tapes among others to digitize and edit. They also have equipment available to rent, like Canon camcorders and GoPros, if you fill out a request form.
The Digital Media Center is always staffed with at least one expert who can help you with this software. They hold a series of workshops available for group sessions as well, accessible to set up by emailing aac-dcs@du.edu. If you can’t get down to the AAC for a workshop, they have posted tutorial series on their website for Final Cut Pro beginning and advanced skills.
The center’s staff highly suggests that you bring an external hard drive (at least 500 GB is recommended) to back up your data and save your project. Since computers are not available to reserve, you will not always be able to work at the same computer.
The Digital Media Center is open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
