Black Sheep Fridays

Denver Museum of Contemporary Art

1485 Delgany St.

Contemporary art is often known for its unique and quirky qualities, reflecting the strange world we live in. And the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art is taking full advantage of this reputation with Black Sheep Fridays, a series of themed events hosted by the museum running every Friday from Jan. 23 to Mar. 27.

The event costs $5 and takes place at the MCA Cafe from 6 to 8 p.m. All are welcome. The nightly event can vary greatly, and past dates have included speed dating to black metal music and a table reading of “Miami Vice” by Joe Biden and Dick Cheney impersonators.

The museum still has plenty of fun in store this year. Upcoming events include “A Wes Anderson Purim,” in which attendees dress as a Wes Anderson movie character and eat hamantaschen (a filled, triangular pastry); “Black Sheep Pi Day (Eve),” in which participants play irrational parlor games while eating pie; and “Pee Wee’s Museum Adventure,” in which everyone competes in a bowtie contest more PeeWee Herman-themed activities.

For those with a love for quirky humour and art, these events could be the perfect way to mix up the Friday routine. The price tag is certainly affordable, too.
The events are held every Friday until Mar. 27, which are Mar. 6 (“A Wes Anderson Purim”), Mar. 13 (“Black Sheep Pi Day (Eve)”), Mar. 20 (“Are You Smarter than a Curator?”) and Mar. 27 (“Pee Wee’s Museum Adventure”).
