The time has once again come for one of DU’s most beloved traditions: Winter Carnival. While last year’s event did not go quite as smoothly as anticipated, with a snowstorm and shooting on I-70 making travel to Keystone hazardous and lengthy, this year will (hopefully) not have quite so many roadblocks. DUPB has several exciting additions and alterations to the line-up of events, so get ready for the best Winter Carnival yet.

The event begins on Feb. 4, with a kickoff from 7 to 9 p.m. Festivities will span the Driscoll Student Center (Driscoll Bridge) and feature entertainment and activities to fit any taste. In the Driscoll gallery there will be food from the DU Grilling Society and a breakfast buffet provided by Sodexo. The 1864 room will feature a free session from a professional yoga instructor, and the ballroom will hold a giant broomball tournament. Lastly, but certainly not least, the lounge will hold tarot card readings, Henna tattoos, a photo booth and ‘‘snow lantern’’ making. The highlight of the night very well may be the lighting and release of the snow lanterns, which will float up and decorate the chilly night sky with their soft glow.

On-campus events continue on Feb. 5. A Karaoke night will run from 8 to 9 p.m. in Davis Auditorium for all students itching to belt out a ballad, followed by a screening of the Zac Efron and Seth Rogen movie “Neighbors” from 9 to 11 p.m.

The rest of Winter Carnival will take place at Keystone Resort. The first event is a showing of “Frozen” at Warren Station from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb 6, a perfect event for all Pios who spent the day packing, driving or on the slopes and want to relax.

The next morning, Feb. 7, students can wake up to a burrito breakfast at Warren station from 8-11 a.m. followed by s’mores from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The rest of the day can be spent skiing or snowboarding on the mountain’s numerous slopes, or, for those who aren’t into that scene, ice skating or exploring the beautiful town of Keystone.

After the day is over, students are invited to take part in an event new to Winter Carnival this year—Apres Ski, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Warren Station. The name literally means ‘after ski’, and is a European tradition in which people gather after a day of skiing and eat, drink and socialize. DU alumni and students are can come to enjoy appetizers, drinks and possibly even fireworks with the company of friends, old and new.

There will also be an all DU picture taken at Warren Station during the event, occurring at 4:46 exactly, so don’t be late.

The finale of Winter Carnival will occur on Saturday night with Skistone: 80’s Retro Throwback dance party, DJed by DU students Bohdi Cooper and Austin Warren. The concert will occur from 9 to 11 p.m. at Warren station. Dancing is highly encouraged.

Registration packets can be picked up on Feb. 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Driscoll Underground, on Feb. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Commerce Room of Driscoll and on Feb. 5 from 12 to 4 p.m. in Driscoll Underground.
