DU student Hannah Apuan recently won Sodexo’s GO BIG National Prize Sweepstakes, a nationwide competition at almost 600 colleges and universities celebrating the mark of a new school year.
This Sodexo Sweepstakes was in conjunction with Sodexo’s GO BIG promotion, a nationwide initiative to welcome students back to their campuses through creating “over the top” food events and generating excitement on campus.
“This event was successful and is one of many things we do to increase the satisfaction of students” said Ira Simon, a DU Sodexo official, also stating that this event was a great way to introduce big, dynamic flavors into DU dining halls.
The competition was promoted across campus within dining halls and online on Sodexo’s website. Registration for the competition occurred online and winners of the sweepstakes were chosen at random. The competition lasted from September 1, 2014 to October 15, 2014 and Apuan was chosen as a winner in late October.
The sweepstakes saw 15 winners, including Apuan, out of around 5000 participants from across the nation. Winners had their choice of four prize packages, including a Bose® Digital Home Theater Speaker System, a PS4™ Game Console Bundle with 2 games, a Sony® Xperia® Tablet Z or a Samsung LED Smart TV. Apuan will be receiving a Samsung LED Smart TV as her prize.
“I am very surprised that I won, I didn’t know it was a nationwide event, but I told all my friends at DU to enter also. I chose the Samsung LED TV so my friends and I can enjoy it together,” Apuan said.
Simon also stated that DU Sodexo staff was excited to have a winner from DU’s campus in this nationwide competition and enjoyed organizing this huge event.
In addition to last quarter’s GO BIG promotion and sweepstakes, Sodexo holds promotions and food events on campus, including National Pie Day at Centennial Halls and Nelson dining halls, which occurs Jan. 23, as well as tailgate events at Rotisserie in Nagel dining hall every football Sunday.
