The DU Lamont School of Music is known for its outstanding concerts, all of which take place in the beautiful Newman Center for the Performing Arts. If you have not taken the time yet this year to go to a Lamont concert—many of which are free to students—here are some of this quarter’s upcoming concerts. Convocation—Concréte Mixer
Gates Concert Hall
Oct. 17
2:30-3 p.m.
This event features Lamont School of Music students performing “musique concrète,” a type of electronic music that uses not only sounds created electronically, but recordings of musical instruments, voices, etc. The recital is free.
Flo’s Underground
Recital Salon
Oct. 17
5 p.m.
Flo’s Underground is a jazz combo made up of Lamont students that was formed in 2002. The students perform original pieces and arrangements. The show is free and occurs weekly, open to both DU students and the community.
Faculty Recital—Jeremy W. Reynolds
Hamilton Recital Hall
Oct. 28
7:30-9 p.m.
Clarinetist and DU faculty member Jeremy W. Reynolds will be performing this upcoming Tuesday. Tickets are 10 dollars to members of the community, and free to students and anyone else with a Pioneer ID card.
Rogers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific
Gates Concert Hall
Members of the Lamont School of Music will be performing the music South Pacific Thurs., Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 2. All performances will be at 7:30 p.m., except for Sunday’s performance, which will be at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $11-30 and are available online through the Lamont School of Music.
Lamont Percussion Ensemble Concert

Tuesday, Nov. 4
7:30-9 p.m.
This ensemble performs four concerts a year and this is their first concert of the 2014-2015 school year. They play traditional percussion ensemble music, as well as more contemporary pieces and pieces specifically commissioned for the ensemble. Admission is free.
Lamont String Chamber Ensembles Concert

Nov. 5
7:30-9:30 p.m.
Chamber ensemble performances tend to make for a more intimate performance. All ensembles are made up of music majors and are coached by members of the string faculty. Admission to this event is free.
Choir Concert—Lamont Chorale, Lamont Women’s Chorus, and Lamont Men’s Choir

7:30-9:30 p.m.
The Lamont Chorale is primarily comprised of music majors and is a mixed choir. It is the most advanced choir of the three performing. The Lamont Women’s Chorus is made up both of music majors and other members of the community, as anyone is encouraged to audition. The Lamont Men’s Choir is also open to any student who wishes to join. All three choirs will be performing both sacred and secular works on CBS.
