Who will be the next marijuana millionaire? The Marijuana Show, which recently held auditions in Denver for possible participants, plans to find out.
Described as a cross-breed between “Shark Tank” and “The Apprentice,” the show is the brain-child of media and investment gurus Karen Paull and Wendy Robbins. The two launched their own production company to create the show, which will be the first reality television show about marijuana.
As a part of the show, people came from around the country to pitch their ideas for a marijuana-related product, hoping to get sponsorship from an investor and become a successful business owner.
Auditions were in mid-September, when aspiring entrepreneurs pitched their ideas to the show’s hosts. The hosts then selected the best 4-6 ideas, and those who pitched them were sent to a ‘bootcamp’ in Taos, New Mexico, where they went through coaching from lawyers, mentors and acting coaches to prepare them for the final stage: pitching to the investors.
This is the portion of the show that takes on a “Shark-Tank” quality; the hopeful entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to investors who would potentially mentor them and fund the idea.
The show is very timely, as the monetary effects of the legalization of marijuana are starting to be realized in Colorado. The industry generated more than $1 billion in 2013, according to Arcview Market Research, and is expected to grow this year. It’s is no wonder that people are looking to cash in.
The show will premiere in November, and you can view it at www.themarijuanashow.com and The Marijuana Show’s Youtube page.
If you would like to participate in the next season of The Marijuana Show, auditions are being held Nov. 15-16 at the Denver Mart Expo Building. Hopefuls must be 21 years of age or older, and must bring a photo I.D., a business plan and the proposed product itself.
