Episode three of “Chatting With Chopp” provided more opportunities for the DU community to get to know their next chancellor.
An employee on the development team at DU’s Sturm College of Law was interested in finding out why Chopp wanted to take the job as chancellor of DU.
Coming from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, making the move to Colorado was a jump but was something Chopp was eager to pursue.
“This is a fabulous place. About 30 years ago, I started doing research in higher education and I started noticing some universities. The University of Denver was at the top of this list that was really on the move academically, in terms of the demographics of the student body, in terms of the facilities,” Chopp said. “The kind of renaissance that’s going on at this university is simply amazing. Another reason is that there is a ranking in higher education about innovation, and the University of Denver ranks as one of the top schools.”
Chopp further commented on her desire to become connected with a school like DU.
“I want to be a part of a university that is truly and realistically looking at the challenges in higher education as incredible opportunities,” Chopp said. “The people at the University of Denver might be the most important reason of why I want to join this community.”
A 2009 Denver graduate wanted to know Chancellor Chopp’s feelings on “any aspects of our history, traditions and culture that have surprised or delighted you?”
“First of all, the facilities here are phenomenal. It is a beautiful campus on the outside, but the inside is magnificent. My breath almost gets taken away. The other thing I really feel excited about learning more about is deep connections to the City of Denver,” Chopp said.
“Chatting With Chopp” has provided the DU community to learn about Chancellor Chopp in a fun, yet informative way. The series continues and ends on a fourth episode.
