On Tuesday, the Department of Campus Safety (DCS) sent out an email alert to students, staff and faculty about an armed robbery near campus.

According to the email, a student was robbed at knifepoint while walking on the 1900 block of South High St. Wednesday night at approximately 10 p.m. She was robbed by two females who passed by her in a group with two other males, all heading in the opposite direction.

“ After she passed them she thought she heard some movement behind her and turned around” said DCS Sgt. Stepehn Banet. “One girl pushed her down and displayed a knife, and one demanded her purse.” The two then fled down High St., according to Banet. The victim was not injured.

The suspects are both described as white females 16-18 years old. One is described as having a chubby build and blonde hair, and the other with dark hair and was wearing all black at the time of the crime.

According to Banet, the Denver Police Department (DPD) is investigating the crime in coordination with a DCS investigator. This is the first armed robbery near campus this year, after two students were robbed at gunpoint in April last year.

If faced with a similar situation, Banet said students should not hesitate to hand over any property demanded by the robbers. Banet said students can take precautions against robbery by walking in groups and staying in well-lit areas when on the streets.
