Over the past weekend, select DU tennis players competed in the Colorado State Open, the largest tournament in the United States.Six members of the Men’s Tennis team played alongside seven members of Denver’s Women’s Tennis team. The open was a success for the Pioneers, with positive results in both the men and women’s matches.
Freshman Alex Gasson was able to advance through to the semi finals, but fell to a player from Southern Nevada. Senior Caroline Schnell also made it to the semifinals for the Pioneers.
The official tennis season began for the women Pioneers on Friday, Sept. 27 at the University of Colorado Invite at Boulder. The men began their official season on Sept. 28 at the ITA All-America Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Senior Alex Clinkenbeard and freshman Alex Gasson both had victories in their single matches for the Pioneers at the ITA All-America Championships. Clinkbeard went 6-2 and 6-0 with Gasson posting results of 7-5 and 6-1.
DU also announced that the Pioneers will be hosting the Summit League Tennis Championships in April at the Gates Tennis Center. This is the first time that DU will host the championship.
