This past weekend marked the end of pre-departure sessions offered by the International House, as well as  the last chance for students studying abroad in the fall to complete their mandatory online Blackboard orientation by April 28.
Other upcoming deadlines for students hoping to study abroad include two forms, the DU Partner Program Acceptance form found on MyWeb, and Information Regarding Medical and Other Needs, both due May 10 to the Office of International Education.

Additionally, students studying abroad face different deadlines and fees from withdrawing from their program than students withdrawing from courses domestically. Students will be charged at minimum a $1,000 fee if they withdraw from study abroad after May 1 for Australia & New Zealand programs and after June 1 for all other programs, according to an email sent by DU Study Abroad on April 17.

Study abroad students must also meet deadlines for student visas, entry permits, passports and program applications based on their individual programs.

The Office of International Education will be hosting several optional region-specific pre-departure sessions through May 24.

DU Study Abroad also notified students eligible for the Cherrington Global Scholars (CGS) program two weeks ago. CGS, which is offered to students that are juniors or seniors in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have met other enrollment requirements, compensates students for the costs of studying abroad. This includes the study abroad application fee,  study abroad program fee, a stipend towards the cost of transportation to and from the study abroad host city, insurance mandated by the host country or university and reimbursement for visa application fees, residence permits or permits to study and foreign airport entry or exit fees that are not included in the student’s travel fare.

Cherrington Scholars must meet regular deadlines for DU tuition for their time abroad, which is $13,248 tuition and a technology fee of $48, not including scholarships and financial aid. Receipts eligible for reimbursement of other expenses must be submitted to the Office of International Education (OIE) within 60 days of the end of their program.
Upcoming region-specific pre-departure sessions are on Thursday, May 2 (Turks and Caicos, SIT Programs, Burren, Cork, Dublin, Queen’s Belfast, Jordan, Israel and Turkey), Friday, May 3 (Spain, Australia/Auckland, India, Ecuador, Italy, Latin America ISA and Tanzania), Tuesday, May 7 (Semester at Sea) and Wednesday, May 8 (Ghana).
