UTS is considering employing cloud email service to provide a single sign-on mechanism for both WebCentral and email, according to Vice Chancellor and Chief Technology Officer Tim Brooks.
“We are currently working with Sam Estenson and the USG (Undergraduate Student Government) to survey the undergraduate student body on whether the current ‘bring your email’ program is meeting their needs or whether a university sponsored cloud email system, such as Google Apps or Office 365, would better meet their needs,” said Brooks.
Brooks and UTS are also going to survey students on the value of having a du.edu email address for life.
Before coming to DU, Brooks employed a cloud system at Saint Louis University, to great effect.
“The adoption of Google Apps for student email, calendar and collaboration services was very popular,” said Brooks.
“The document sharing, collaboration and video chat features were used extensively for academic, research and campus life activities.”
Brooks said the process is currently in the investigation and data gathering phase.
