Although Pearl Street is known for its trendy eateries like Stella’s Coffeehaus, Park Burger and Sushi Den, it is also home to hidden gems for shoppers and spa girls, musicians and yogis and even the nerdiest bookworm.

Even if you’re tired of the tried-and-true Pearl Street delicacies, it’s worth giving Pearl Street’s less trafficked nooks another look.

Situated down at the far end of Pearl Street, at 1893 S. Pearl, across from the newly expanded Park Burger (also an amazing place to get lunch, with huge, juicy burgers and ice-cold milkshakes), is the Denver Folklore Center, which has been serving Denver’s acoustic needs since 1963, and continues to be one of the most interesting and beloved instrument stores in all of Denver.

The Denver Folklore Center has sold new, used and repaired acoustic instruments since 1963 when it was opened by musician Harry Tuft. This includes guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, dulcimers and banjos.  Lessons for these instruments are also offered.

After seeing one of Pearl Street’s most historic shops, perhaps, you can work your way towards the independently owned Murder by the Book bookstore, at 1574 S. Pearl, where they specialize in mystery and crime-thriller novels.

If you’re feeling quirky, or have a passion for murder mystery novels, this is a fun and creepy way to spend a spring afternoon.

Now, you may be feeling over stimulated with mystery and music. Have no fear, Pearl Street is here. There is no shortage on alternative options as the street boasts several spas, salons and a high-class yoga studio.

Pearl Street Yoga, located at 1550 S. Pearl, is a clean and sunlit space, offering classes for yogis of all levels and for all types of practices.

The first class is free, and then it’s $15 for a drop-in session. They offer Restorative Relaxation at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays, and plenty of other classes listed online catering to your individual yogi needs and experience.

Now, we’re all relaxed, which means there’s an immense amount of shopping to be done.

A dozen little shops and boutiques litter both sides of the street, and you can often find shoppers lazily wandering from place to place, enjoying a cup of coffee or walking their dogs.

Pearl Street has a relaxed and vibrant community, perfect for mingling in the spring.

Shops include Common Threads Consignment, an upscale used clothing store, 5 Green Boxes, a quirky knick-knack home goods store and the hip-clothing store Unity featuring an assortment of Toms shoes and other eco-friendly clothing items.

After shopping, Pearl has no shortage of award winning and eclectic restaurants to choose from. From Gaia Bistro’s fresh and healthy crepe and sandwich options to the fire oven-roasted pizza at Kaos, Pearl will keep students experimenting with a diverse range of delicacies.

Whatever your whim this beautiful season, Old South Pearl Street is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day, afternoon or night shopping, dining and living the good life.
