The men’s golf team placed 7th at the Sun Belt Conference championships this week in Muscle Shoals, Ala. on Thursday.

Sophomore Chun-Ji Kim tied for 4th and was named to the All-SBC Team. He ended up 3-over par with a final round score of 75.

“We were all really proud of his performance,” said head coach Eric Hoos. “He’s just a sophomore, so I’m really excited that we have him for two more years.”

Hoos said that Kim’s performance was the  biggest highlight the team saw, as the team finish was less than desirable.

“Our finish is not what the team or the coaching staff was looking for, but we’re all very proud of Chun-Ji,” said Hoos. “He played well all week and it was great to seem him named to the All-SBC team.”

As a team, the Pioneers finished at 50-over par. The eventual tournament champions, North Texas, ended up at 9-over par.

“North Texas is an extremely good team,” said Hoos. “We were looking for 2nd or 3rd place. Seventh is not the result that the coaching staff or team was looking for.”

Sophomore Ole Ramsnes broke the top 20, finishing nine-over par individually and tying for 16th place. After North Texas, the top five consisted of Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas-Little Rock and South Alabama.

For only the second time in 10 years, and for their final season in the SBC, the team will not be playing in the postseason.
