The Department of Campus Safety (DCS) is attempting to identify a young male who exposed his genitals to a female freshman resident in the north tower of Centennial Halls on April 16.

According to Sgt. Stephen Banet of DCS, officers are in the process of reviewing videotapes from cameras located in the lobby of the building to find someone who fits the suspect’s description.

Banet said there has been no identification at this point and could not confirm whether or not the suspect was a resident of the building.

“It’s a difficult task to review the camera footage,” said Banet. “We are currently trying to develop [a sketch] of the suspect from the general description given, but we don’t know how long that will take.”

The incident occurred at 12:50 p.m., when the “college-aged” suspect entered the victim’s room without a shirt on. The victim said she was studying at the time of the incident and the man asked her for a tissue.

Banet said the suspect then dropped his shorts and exposed his genitals to the victim before she asked him to leave the room.

“There was never a struggle and the suspect left upon request,” said Banet. “She asked him to leave and that’s when he exited the room and went into the hall.”

According to Banet, five officers responded to the initial call, including Banet, and attempted to isolate the person in the north tower.

However, their floor-by-floor search was unsuccessful.

“We cleared the tower and did our search, but we couldn’t find him,” said Banet.

According to the report, the suspect is described as having a light to dark complexion and is approximately 6-feet tall, skinny and was wearing only blue shorts prior to the time of the incident.

The victim said the suspect looked unfamiliar, but Banet said he could very well be a resident.

Banet said he recommends that students keep doors closed and locked at all times to avoid such incidents in the future.
