What went right

In the singles competition, sophomore Caroline Schnell defeated Sacramento’s Sophie Lohscheidt 6-1, 6-3. Following her lead, junior Steffi Rath and fellow sophomore Natalie Dunn both defeated their opponents as well. Rath topped Maria Meliuk 7-5, 7-5, and Dunn dropped Andrea Gomez Carus 7-5, 6-3.

In the doubles matches, Denver saw some change-ups when Najera and Dunn of Denver’s team defeated Lohscheidt and Gomez 8-6 in the No. 3 match.

What went wrong

Denver junior Sophia Bergner was defeated by Tatsiana Kapshai 6-2, 6-3, Denver sophomore Elena Najera was defeated by Rebecca Delgado 6-1, 6-3 and Clarise Bacca defeated Pioneer junior Emma Isberg 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.

The Pioneers lost the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, played by Bergner and Schnell against Kapshai and Delgado and Rath and Isberg against Meliuk and Baca, respectively.

Denver will travel to Denton, Texas to play April 19-22.
