Serving up Argentinian cuisine for two generations, Buenos Aires Pizzeria is a family-owned restaurant in LoDo on 22nd Street and Larimer.

With free parking across the street, Buenos Aires boasts a cozy and unique atmosphere, perfect for stopping in for an appetizer or dessert.

While known for its cheap and delicious empanadas and renowned gelato, Buenos Aires’ true charm is in the atmosphere and friendly staff.

Upon walking in, customers are greeted by the owner or another member of the staff.

Little details like this make Buenos Aires an inviting and familial locale.

The atmosphere in Buenos Aires is more like a friend’s kitchen than a formal restaurant.

Small, intimate tables litter the restaurant, adorned with simple and colorful flatware, each hosting a small, flickering candle.

The rough wood floor and high ceilings give Buenos Aires an airy and home-like quality while the walls, covered with an eclectic mix of photographs and paintings of various elements of Argentinian culture, seamlessly blend the old and new worlds.

Buenos Aires is, in fact, a pizzeria. However, it is more famous for the atmosphere, the staff and the delightful and cheap empanadas.

These renowned attributes keep the regulars coming back, and make first-timers join the regulars’ ranks.

At $2.50 for a regular and $3.40 for an open-faced empanada, Buenos Aires offers more than 20 different meat and vegetarian fillings.

Eaten as a light meal or an appetizer, it’s suggested to order several empanadas and share them with a date or a group.

In fact, narrowing it down to just a few choices is the real difficulty. Spinach and cheese offers a creamy delicious filling inside a crisp and buttery shell, while a chicken, pesto and sun-dried tomato filling has more of a pizza-like quality.

The combinations are endless, and each offers an astounding amount of flavor packed into a small, tasty crust.

Buenos Aires also specializes in Argentinian-style pizzas.

With the choice of olive oil or homemade tomato sauce, customers can create their own pizza or choose from one of the many distinguished options, such as a mozzarella, artichoke, basil or tomato.

Or try something more daring, like the Tropical Pizza, topped with mozzarella, ham, pineapple, orange slices and coconut

Buenos Aires’ pizza is unique in many regards, particularly with their amazing gluten-free crust option. Crisp, crunchy and thick, it’s unlike most gluten-free options elsewhere; this pizza has no direct resemblance to cardboard or any other unpleasantly textured wheat substitute.

This delicacy is a rare delight in the world of Celiac-diseased stomachs and bandwagon diners.

Buenos Aires is reasonably priced, although some of the pizzas can get a little pricey, ranging from $11-$17 for a small.

A cheaper option might be to order a few empanadas and split a pizza with friends or a date.

Be sure to remember the extensive gelato menu as well. Known for serving up some of the best gelato in town, Buenos Aires offers cream or water-based gelato and a large assortment of flavors.

Creamy and thick, Buenos Aires uses real fruit, making this place a great way to end a meal or share a romantic dessert after hitting the town.

Open Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday and closed Mondays, Buenos Aires also offers popular take-out options, as well as a traditional gnocchi dinner on the 29th day of every month.

For delicious empanadas, rich and authentic gelato and a warm, welcoming familial environment, try out Buenos Aires and experience a little piece of Argentina right here in Denver.
