kend events offer on-campus options for food, fun and family on an affordable budget and in a festive atmosphere for a friendly visit from the folks, hosted by the DU Alumni Foundation and the DU Parent’s Association.

A welcoming get-together will kick off the weekend, during which you can pick up all your tickets to the events and meet with other DU dads and granddads.  This ticket pick-up and meet-and-greet will be held at the Leo Block Alumni Center on Thursday from 12 p.m. to  4 p.m. and Friday from  8 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

Share a DU tradition with your dad or grandad on a tour of the DU Carillon and Williams Tower in the Ritchie Center which will be given throughout Friday morning.  

There are also many free lectures in Sturm on Friday during the day on many different topics that your father is bound to love.  Some of the lecture topics include “It’s Not Your Father’s Business World Anymore,” “Assistive Technology and Better Access to a DU Education” and “History of Robotics:  A Journey though Time.”  

Chris Anthony, a former Alaskan Extreme Skiing Champion, a veteran of nine World Extreme Skiing Championships, and 22 Warren Miller films, is the featured speaker for the weekend.  The title of his presentation is “What it takes to Find Your Untracked Powder.” The presentation will be on Friday at 4 p.m. in Davis Auditorium. Students may purchase tickets any weekday at the Center for Academic Advising between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $5 per ticket.  On the day of the event, all tickets will be sold at the Leo Block Alumni Center.

If educational lectures are not the way you want spend time with your dad or granddad, then attend one of the many sporting events throughout the weekend.  

DU men’s hockey will face off against North Dakota at Magness Arena at 8:07 p.m. on Friday night and 7:07 p.m. on Saturday.  There are also two men’s lacrosse games one on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

For a great father and daughter sporting event, women’s gymnastics hosts Sacramento State for its Military Appreciation Night at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gym.  Both men’s and women’s basketball games on Sunday are against North Texas in Magness Arena. You can also attend the third Annual DU men’s soccer Goal-A-Thon to Benefit Breast Cancer.  

If sporting events are not your thing either,  go to “In The Mood – A 1940’s Musical Revue,” a music offering at the Newman Center. Show times include Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
