what went right
The Pioneers were able to end their three-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
“We played a very tough, highly ranked Texas Tech team and came out tough early on, winning No. 1 doubles,” said head coach Jeremy Wurtzman after Friday’s competition. “In the singles, we came out and had some chances to win some first sets. When you play against a team like this, you really have to take advantage of your opportunities. I think we let some go, and that was the huge difference tonight.”
On Sunday, Denver had wins at No. 2 from Caroline Schnell and Natalie Dunn and at No. 1 from Bergner and Rath. Emma Isberg and Rath both won in singles to give DU the lead. Schnell clinched the victory for the Crimson and Gold with her singles win, Dunn and Bergner finished it off with wins at No. 5 and No. 1.
