The Daniels College of Business (DCB) began a calling campaign that has continued through January after accepting 300 incoming freshmen as part of its early-admissions process for the 2012-13 school year.

These students, notified in December, bypass the process of applying to DCB after completing their freshman year at DU. The office of admissions shares potential applicants with DCB based on academic performance, calibre and other factors. From there, DCB decides who to admit directly.

DCB began the calling campaign to encourage the newly-accepted students to enroll. As part of the campaign, current DCB students call the newly-accepted students to share their experience.

According to Dan Connolly, associate dean of Undergraduate Studies, DCB wants students to reach out on a more personal basis to add a “personal touch” to the enrollment process.

“We want people to know they are coming to a vibrant, welcoming community,” said Connolly. “We think it will make a difference in students picking us.”

The dean said the college sees now as a strong time to reach out to students because many are still considering what college to attend next year and will wait to make their decision until financial aid awards are distributed in March.

Connolly said DCB’s personal methods of reaching out to accepted students are part of a quality that sets DU apart from other schools.

“We have a really student-centric group of people between our staff approaches and our activities,” said Connolly – adding that there are unique programs offered at DCB, including the Backpacks to Briefcase program and their ethics boot camp.

Connolly said he still wants students to apply to DCB if they feel they have any interest.

“Anyone interested is, as always, strongly encouraged to apply,” he said.
