what went right

Senior Mark Matthews racked up eight points on four goals and four assists, while senior Patrick Rogers added five goals for the Pioneers in a narrow loss to the U.S. National team on Sunday. Junior Eric Law scored three goals for the Pioneers, junior Cameron Flint scored two and senior Alex Demopoulos finished the scoring with one goal and three assists in the losing effort.

Sophomore goalie Jamie Faus faced 64 shots, had 14 impressive saves and only allowed 16 goals.  After the U.S. National team went up two goals in the fourth quarter, Rogers sent the Pioneers into overtime, scoring two goals.

what went wrong

The Pioneers gave up 16 goals, the  final one with 1:11 left in the overtime period. They allowed Kevin Leveille of the to record five goals and one assist, one of which was the game winner. Chazz Woodson scored three goals and an assist, and goalkeeper Drew Adams made 11 saves in 34 minutes.  U.S.’s Matt Stiebel scored an unassisted goal, Stephen Berger scored two goals and Max Seibald added a goal.

The Pioneers will travel to Chapel Hill, NC, on Sunday to scrimmage North Carolina.
