Birmingham, Alabama native, Roy Wood Jr. says that, “good comedy comes from a good plan.” This belief has always been important to Wood because he has never been the class clown or center of attention in school.

Instead, he has always been a very “laid back and reserved” guy who likes comedy and just wanted to give it a shot.

When he started he made one very important goal for himself to follow, “In order for me to continue doing comedy I want to make more money in future years than I have in the past.”

And so far this has been the case allowing him to climb the ladder in this very competitive career field and follow his dream.

A strong run on the NBC hit reality show “Last Comic Standing” has been his newest opportunity and claim to fame on his career path finishing among the top 5 finalists during the seventh season of the show.

Fellow “Last Comic Standing” finalists Mike Destefano, Myq Kaplan, Tommy Johnagin and season winner Filipe Esparza join Wood on the “Last Comic Standing Tour” across the United States including three shows in Colorado that included a Saturday, Jan. 8 show here in Gates Concert Hall at the University of Denver.

Gates Concert Hall was packed with people of all ages ranging from DU students to adults from all over the Denver community there for a night on the town.

The tone of the show was set by Wood himself as he lead the audience with a cheeky performance along with a very funny commentary while introducing the different comedians as the host of the show.

Every comedian was able to personalize their routine to cater towards the Denver audience very well, however the highlights of the night were found in the use of jokes about the “high altitude” and the “lack of air” in the city of Denver. Together these five comedians created good comedy by following the philosophy of Wood. They came with a plan and they executed it hilariously.
