Chances are if you follow pop culture you’ve heard music by Filligar. The four-person band has been featured in five different MTV programs, including The Real World and 16 and Pregnant, as well as Teen Mom. This year celebrates the release of its eighth album, The Nerve. The album sounds good, but also seems to have its own set of highs and lows.

Though mostly rock, The Nerve has a variety of genres to it. The first track plays almost like a song fresh off a country album but not quite.

The pacing quickly changes from that and even goes as far to sound like adult contemporary.

By album’s end, the songs begin to incorporate all of these different types of music into each track.

This could be due to the composition of the band itself. The piano seldom sounds distorted or adjusted. Drums, bass and guitar also do well for the genre here, as each instrument seems to complement one another.

Length is also not an issue on the album. On the 14-track album, only five songs are shorter than 4 minutes.

This will come as a happy coincidence for anyone concerned with an album one can breeze through in a half-hour.

One issue does tend to seem to arise while listening to the album.

Its conservative nature when combined with its placing in the genre causes it to be lacking a certain something.
