Senses Fail’s newest album, The Fire, explores the theme of Daddy issues.
If you take a listen to some of the songs, which at press time, can be streamed on MySpace, there’s a good chance you’ll hear lead singer-screamer James “Buddy” Nielsen talk about how much he hates his father.
The remaining songs usually talk about hating some anonymous person, who may also be the father.
However, while this album isn’t exactly sunshine in tone, it is a great album.
This band has once again stepped up to the plate with some aggressive guitar work, fancy drum beats, relentless bass and a mix of melodic singing and voice-straining screaming.
The lyrics, while not creative in theme, are rather poetic, giving the band’s angst-laden rage a sharp, knowledgeable edge.
That’s certainly a respectable trait, since the band could have just as easily produced lyrics about an evil girl with no heart.
The Fire may not be a boundary-pushing album, but it changes things up enough to be interesting.
