Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is holding Think Pink Week until Friday to help raise money and awareness about breast cancer.

Last year CAC raised $1,000. The goal for this year is to raise $4,000.

This annual week-long event is held in October, the official month for breast cancer awareness.

Members of CAC will be on the Driscoll Bridge to provide information, hand out ribbons, answer questions and urge awareness.

They will also be selling T-shirts with the message, “A feel a day keeps the doctor away.” The cost of each T-shirt is $10. There will also be a gelatin boob at the table to teach women how to perform a self breast exam.

Members will be handing out “boob cookies” on Thursday near Sturm.

CAC also has partnered with Illegal Pete’s to raise money. On Thursday Illegal Pete’s will have food specials such as “burrito for boobs” and the “Double D” burrito.

If customers mention “burrito for boobs” or Think Pink Week, 20 percent of the proceeds will go to The American Cancer Society.

The Fricamicos band will be playing from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Illegal Pete’s and there will be a special $3 pink shot, proceeds from which will go to The American Cancer Society.

We have high hopes to raise most of the money on Thursday, said CAC presidents Jackie Reiner, Laura Russ, Ali Ewanouski and Amy Knackendoffel.

One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of a lifetime. In 2010 alone there are estimated to be 207,090 new cases of breast cancer diagnoses in women.

All proceeds from Think Pink Week will help for cancer research, education, patient services and advocacy nationwide.
