A freshman jaywalking on East Evans Avenue near Illegal Pete’s late Friday night was hit by a car.

Julia Bramante, 18, was returning to Centennial Halls when she was struck.

“I wasn’t in the crosswalk,” Bramante said. “I would advise anyone to look both ways before they cross the street.”

The male driver stopped after hitting Bramante. According to witnesses, the car screeched to a halt upon impact. The car hood was significantly dented, witnesses said.

Bramante was taken to Denver Health and underwent a CT scan and MRI for abrasions over most of her body. She was monitored by hospital staff overnight.

Bramante suffered a sprained ankle and minor scrapes on her left calf, both knees, right hip, right elbow, left shoulder, nose and cheeks.

Her back is the only part of her body that doesn’t hurt, she said.

“I was very fortunate that nothing worse happened,” Bramante said.

Bramante and the driver are scheduled to appear in Denver District Court in October.
