For several reasons, I find myself thinking that I love Adobe.  For those of you who have yet to hear, the corporations Adobe and Apple are having a spat over the Adobe product Flash being barred from the iPhone and iPad.

I have always been a fan of Apple. I think they continue to produce amazing products time and time again.

Unfortunately, this issue with Adobe appears to me to be a poorly chosen battle. On this issue, I must agree with the good people at Adobe.

Adobe’s new ad campaign claims that they love Apple.  It continues to list several other loves they have, including creativity, healthy competition and all platforms. I, as I stated above, love Adobe for publishing this advertisement.

Yes, I realize that they are doing this to prove that they are the bigger company, putting open creativity and equality above exclusion and fighting.  But the fact that they choose to retaliate in a way such as this seems admirable.

Adobe could lash out, running a smear campaign against Apple for denouncing and barring their program, but they instead choose promote an image of embracing and accepting all platforms.

Although I admire this campaign, I’m sure that it will not change Apple’s mind. From the letter Steve Jobs wrote regarding the issue, it seems that no feature or change in the product or the companies policies could make Flash a reality for either the iPhone or iPad.

The fact remains that Steve Jobs, and consequently his company, feel that since Flash is “100 percent proprietary,” that it is a close system and therefore unattractive to Apple and unusable on Apple products.

What I would like to see is other groups accept Flash for mobile use and pick up where Apple left off.  This is an opportunity for this product to give itself a new image, one of acceptance and good-natured competition, despite the feud it once had with Apple.

Essentially, both companies could benefit from this small disagreement. Apple will no longer use Flash, and Adobe can find others to support its product and improve the mobile web further.  For these reasons, I love Adobe.
