The no. 25 DU’s women’s lacrosse team dominated Regis University at the Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in an exhibition game on Oct. 8, winning 13-4.

The first game of the year for the Pioneers took place on Oct. 4 at the University of Colorado- Boulder against the CU Buffs, winning 16-6. Another exhibition event, Denver brought home their first victory of the year after this game.

“I think we did a really good job of controlling the ball in the first half. I thought Kiki [Boone] did a great job of draw controls and coming up with it. The attack really settled down, that was something that we were working on coming off of CU, where we thought we played a little bit too fast in that first half,” said head coach Liza Kelly in an interview with Denver media.

With a roster of 28 players, including eight freshman and seven seniors, Denver has new and old talent to work with this upcoming season.

“We’ve got two games under our belt, which is great and I think that sometimes, it’s hard as a coach to practice without having any games because the games really tell you what you need to work on,” Kelly said.

Starting Oct. 18, Denver will travel to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., for a weekend of lacrosse.

During the Georgetown Fall Playday, the Denver Pioneers will play three games on Oct. 18. First facing Georgetown, Denver will then take on James Madison University, followed by a game against Lehigh University.

“I think Georgetown will be a very good test for us. So I think it’s really working on our stick work and our fitness to get us where we need to be towards the end of the season,” Kelly said.

The Pioneers will have a week to prepare for their annual Alumnae at Peter Barton on Oct. 25.
